JusticeVision
Democracy University Vol. 4:
Vidal/Hitchens/MAI/Virgo/Duesberg
Dear Justicevision Supporter:
We've just put together Volume 4 in the Democracy University series. It
includes author Gore Vidal in conversation with author Christopher Hitchens,
an analysis of the Multilateral Agreement on Investment by Lori Wallich of
Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch Program and Dan Seligman of the Sierra
Club's Responsible Trade Campaign, an report on the state of women by
political analyst Sabina Virgo, and an audio-visual presentation of the
evidence that AIDS is NOT caused by a virus, by leading retrovirologist Dr.
Peter Duesberg.
Justicevision will be happy to send the 6-hour videotape with the above four
events if you pledge to send a donation of $10 or more after you receive the
tape, in the envelope you will receive with the videotape. Below are
descriptions of the four events:
"Gore Vidal in Conversation with Christopher Hitchens" (Berkeley, Ca.,
3/14/98, 1 hr. 28 mins.). They humorously discuss family values in the context
of Clinton, the Kennedys, Vidal's cousin Al Gore, Monica Lewinsky, and Kenneth
Starr. Gore Vidal also discusses the CIA and assassins, the educational
system, our inability to get a national healthcare system, growing government
intrusion, his father and Franklin Roosevelt, his treatment by the New York
Times, monotheism vs. Buddhism, Truman and the Cold War, how and why the U.S.
became "an Atomic Empire" with "only... one party, which is the Corporation
Party of Property, with two right wings, one Democratic and one Republican"
and what we should do about it, the taxation of churches in light of the
political activity of the religious right, and a number of other topics.
"The MAI: A Bill of Rights for Corporations?" (San Francisco, Ca., 2/24/98, 1
hr. 43 mins.). Lori Wallich, director of Public Citizen's Global Tradewatch
Program, Dan Seligman, director of the Sierra Club's Responsible Trade
Campaign, and Antonia Juhasz of the Preamble Center for Public Policy join
forces to give this systematic treatment of the provisions of the MAI and its
likely implications. In addition to being both interesting and motivating, it
is critically timely, since the MAI is likely to be up for vote in Congress at
the end of April.
"The Wizard and the Birdcage: How Racism, Violence, Class, and Gender Interact
with each other" (Los Angeles, Ca., 3/7/98, 1 hr. 15 mins., including a 12
minute musical presentation by Peace and Justice musician Linda Fisher), with
Sabina Virgo, political analyst and organizer, and co-chair of the Crack the
CIA Coalition. In this International Women's Day lecture Ms.Virgo examines
the worsening of conditions for the majority of the world's women due to the
increasing concentration of the world's wealth.
"Non-Contagious Causes of AIDS" (Costa Mesa, Ca., 8/18/95, 1 hr. 43 mins.).
Considered by many to be the father of retrovirology, Dr. Duesberg presents
the evidence that recreational drugs, overuse of anti-biotics, and the
prophylactic use of the DNA-terminating drug AZT may be sufficient to explain
the immune suppression widely diagnosed as AIDS, and suggests that economic
forces resultant from the $7 billion-a-year AIDS industry public subsidy and
the $13 billion-a-year War On Drugs are responsible for keeping the truth away
from the public. Dr. Duesberg, author of The Virus Hunters, is frequently
vilified, but I have been unable to get answers to the questions he raises or
explanations for the evidence he presents and related evidence from either his
naysayers or the Center for Disease Control, and I at one time had ordered
every related publication they had to offer. In the 3 years that I have been
taping the monthly meetings of L.A. HEAL, a group whose members largely share
his views on AIDS and HIV, I have neither seen nor heard of an HIV-positive
member acquiring an AIDS defining illness. (Due to the enormous influence of
the HIV/AIDS community, it would be easy for us to acquiesce in omitting this
issue. However, in the absence of answers to the questions Dr. Duesberg and
dozens of other qualified researchers have raised, it would be unethical to
not include it, or to postpone including it any longer. We will include
refutory material in this series should it become available.)
Again, Justicevision will be happy to send the 6-hour videotape with the above
four events if you pledge to send a donation of $10 or more after you receive
the tape; you may use the envelope you will receive with the videotape. To
order this or earlier tapes in the series, please telephone oremail us your
request, leaving your name, mailing address, and a phone number. We are
calling this tape DU4, short for Democracy University Vol. 4. Each order is
sent with descriptions of the previous videotapes in the Democracy University
series, as well as lists of dozens of other tapes we make available for $10.
Thank you for your support!

P.S.: I will be very happy to send along the earlier tapes in the Democracy
University series if you would like, and will be happy to send their
descriptions by email, if you do not have them already, upon request. Briefly,
DU1 was the Berenson/Chomsky/Caldicott/Dugger video, DU2 was the
Korten/Clarke/Grossman/Zinn/Ivins video (on MAI and Corporations), and DU3 was
the Zinn/Terkel/Nader video, which also included speeches by Winona LaDuke,
Ronnie Dugger, and a number of others. Each is 6 hours long and requires you
send a minimum donation of $10 after you get them. Also, we have no other
means to reach potential supporters but by word of mouth. Please forward this
announcement to your friends.
P.P.S.: I'm now about $6000 in debt to credit card companies. If you haven't
sent in your pledge for previous tapes, it would be especially appreciated at
this time, and would save me the time and expense of contacting you
individually.
To those of you that have sent in pledges, extra donations, and notes, we
express our extreme appreciation, and apologize for not being able time-wise,
at present, to thank each of you individually.
FOOTNOTE:
Before forwarding this letter to friends you may wish to add your name and
address to the list below. Also, you may want to send a thank you, either a
note or a small gift (like a dollar), to those who passed the information
along to you. By remembering those who passed this
message along to you in this manner, you will be helping this information to
reach an ever-expanding audience.
